What is this topic about?
This topic is about parts of the body and physical features. A physical feature is the way a person looks: his or her height, hair and eyes. We learn the names of the body parts and we learn how to say what a person is like.
Look at yourself in a mirror. You can point to your head, your eyes, your nose, your mouth, your hands and your feet. Then say the sentences out loud.
How do we describe a person?
We use has got with he, she and it. We say: 'She has got long hair.' We never say 'she have got'.
We use is for height, age and body shape. We say: 'He is tall.' 'My sister is eight years old.' 'The cat is small.'
Useful words and rules
- Hair is uncountable. We say long hair, not 'long hairs'.
- Two eyes, two ears, two hands and two feet are normal for every person.
- Tooth becomes teeth and foot becomes feet in the plural form.
- Big and small describe eyes, ears, hands and feet. Tall and short describe height.
- For the colour of hair we use 'is': 'My hair is brown and straight.'
Read the list two times. First read only the words, then read the short examples.
Word table
| Body part | Turkish | Example sentence |
|---|
| head | baş | She has got a round head. |
| hair | saç | He has got short curly hair. |
| shoulder | omuz | Her shoulders are narrow. |
| foot | ayak | My left foot is small. |
Read the table with your teacher. Cover the English column and try to say the Turkish meaning.
