Konu Anlatımı
will vs be going to — Geleceği Anlatmanın İki Yolu
İngilizce'de geleceği anlatan birden çok yapı vardır ve sınavlarda bu yapılar birbirinin yerine kullanılmasıyla ölçülür. En temel ikisi will ve be going to yapılarıdır. İkisi de Türkçe'de -ecek / -acak ile çevrilebilir; ancak İngilizcede anlam farkı kesindir: will çoğunlukla anlık karar ve tahmin, be going to ise önceden plan ve şu andaki kanıt anlatır.
will: Anlık Karar, Tahmin ve Vaat
will bir modal fiildir; yalın fiilin (V1) başına gelir ve özneye göre değişmez: I will, he will, they will. Kısaltması 'll'dir: I'll help you. /aɪl/ olarak okunur, üç ayrı kelime gibi değil bir bütün olarak söylenir. O an verilen karar, teklif, vaat, tehdit, tahmin ve gelecekte kesinleşmiş gerçekler için kullanılır.
Olumsuz hâli will not / won't /wəʊnt/ biçimindedir; soruda will özne önüne gelir: Will you open the door? will'den sonra fiile -s eklenmez; He will goes yerine He will go yazılır.
| Kullanım | Anlam | Örnek |
|---|
| spontaneous decision | anlık karar | I'll have a cup of tea, thanks. |
| prediction | tahmin (I think, probably) | I think she will win the race. |
| promise / threat | vaat / tehdit | I will always support you. |
| future fact | gelecekteki gerçek | The sun will rise at 6:15 tomorrow. |
be going to: Plan ve Kanıt
be going to + V1 yapısı, konuşmadan önce düşünülmüş niyet ve planları anlatır: We are going to paint our house next month. İkinci kullanımı ise şu anda görülen bir kanıttan geleceğe dair çıkarım yapmaktır: Look at those clouds! It is going to rain. Burada gökyüzündeki bulutlar kanıttır; yağmurun yağacağı o anda anlaşılmaktadır.
- I am going to apply for a scholarship. — Bursa başvurmayı düşünüyorum. (plan)
- She is going to be a doctor. — O doktor olacak. (niyet)
- He is going to fail the test; he hasn't studied at all. — Sınavda kalacak, hiç çalışmamış. (kanıt)
- Are you going to join the choir? — Koroya katılacak mısın? (soru)
Olumsuz, Soru ve Zaman Uyumu
be going to yapısında olumsuzluk be fiiline gelir: isn't going to, aren't going to. Soruda ise be fiili özne önüne geçer: What are you going to do tonight? Her iki yapıda da fiil yalın kalır ve cümledeki zaman uyumu (present simple) bozulmaz.
Zaman bağlaçları konuyu bir adım ileri taşır: when, as soon as, before, after, until, while, if gibi bağlaçlardan sonra gelecek anlamına rağmen present simple kullanılır. I will call you when I will arrive yanlıştır; doğrusu I will call you when I arrive olmalıdır.
Adım Adım: Doğru Yapıyı Seçme
- Cümlede now, right now, at this moment gibi o an bildiren bir kanıt var mı? Evetse → be going to.
- Karar konuşma anında mı veriliyor? (I'm hungry / I'll make a sandwich) → will.
- Önceden düşünülmüş bir plan mı? (We've booked the tickets) → be going to.
- Son kontrol: will'den sonra yalın fiil, be going to'dan sonra yalın fiil mi? Ekleri kontrol edin.
Sınav Odaklı: Tipik Tuzaklar
will going to bir arada kullanılamaz: I will going to travel yerine I am going to travel ya da I will travel yazılmalıdır.
Sınavlarda en çok şu üç hata görülür: will'dan sonra -s eklemek, zaman bağlaçından sonra will kullanmak ve anlık karar için be going to tercih etmek. Ayrıca be about to + V1 yapısı, be going to'nun çok yakın gelecek anlamı taşır: The plane is about to take off (uçak kalkmak üzere). Bu kalıp sorulduğunda anlam karşılığı olarak çok yakında -ecek seçeneği aranır.
Ne Öğreneceğiz
In this lesson you will learn the difference between the two most common future forms in English. Both will and be going to talk about tomorrow, but they answer different questions: will answers what do I decide or believe now, while be going to answers what have I planned or what can I already see.
You will study the four uses of will: a decision made at the moment of speaking, a promise, an offer, and a prediction based on opinion (I think it will rain). Then you will study the two uses of be going to: an intention that was decided before speaking, and a prediction based on present evidence (Look at those black clouds!).
You will also learn the short forms 'll and won't, the question order, and the words that signal each form, such as I think, maybe, probably for will and next week, look, careful for be going to.
Ön Bilgi
Two things must be ready before this lesson.
First, the present simple and present continuous. You need them because most future sentences contain a time clause: When she arrives, while we are waiting. A time clause with a future meaning never takes will: say When she arrives, I will call you, not When she will arrive.
Second, the verb forms after modals. After will the verb stays in its base form, so He will goes is impossible. In be going to you need the correct form of be first: I am going to, she is going to, they are going to.
A quick self-check: can you say what is wrong with I think it isn't going to rain tomorrow, maybe it will be sunny? If you can spot the tense choice, you are ready.
Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam
Read this short exchange and notice how the two forms appear side by side.
A: The phone is ringing. B: Don't worry, I'll answer it. A: Aren't you going to call your brother back? B: I am going to call him after dinner, I promise.
I'll answer it is a decision taken at that moment, so it takes will. I am going to call him after dinner is a plan made earlier, so it takes be going to. The word promise is another signal for will, because promises are also decisions.
Now write three sentences of your own: one decision, one promise, and one plan.
Karşılaştırma Tablosu
Keep the two forms apart with this table. It also lists the typical time words you will see in exam tasks.
| Function | Form | Signal words | Example |
|---|
| decision at the moment of speaking | will + V1 | OK, all right, I think so | I'll have the chicken, please. |
| promise or offer | will + V1 | I promise, I swear, don't worry | I'll help you with your bags. |
| prediction from opinion | will + V1 | I think, maybe, probably, perhaps | I think the team will win. |
| intention decided earlier | be going to + V1 | next week, soon, tonight | We are going to visit Izmir. |
| prediction from present evidence | be going to + V1 | look, watch out, careful | Look! That tree is going to fall. |
Rule of thumb: if you can see the reason now, choose be going to; if you are only giving your opinion, choose will.
Sık Yapılan Hatalar
Five mistakes are typical of this structure.
- Putting to after will. I will to go is wrong. After a modal the verb goes directly in the base form: I will go.
- Adding -s after will. She will comes should be She will come; will never changes for the person.
- Leaving out be in be going to. I going to study must become I am going to study.
- Using will in a time clause. When I will finish → When I finish. Time clauses with when, after, before, as soon as, until take the present form.
- Choosing will for visible evidence. Look at the sky! It will snow is less natural than Look at the sky! It is going to snow.
Özet
The two future forms divide the work between personal decisions and prepared plans.
- will: decisions made while speaking, offers, promises, and predictions that come from what you believe. It is the same for every person: I will, he will, they will.
- be going to: intentions that were planned before speaking, and predictions supported by evidence you can see now.
- Signals: I think, maybe, probably, I promise point to will; look, careful, next week point to be going to.
- Never: to after will, a missing be, or will inside a time clause.
If you can explain one sentence with each form, you can do the exam questions on this topic.
Kendini Dene
Choose will or be going to and write the full form.
- I am thirsty. I ____ (have) a glass of water.
- We ____ (move) to Izmir next month. We have already found a flat.
- Look at those clouds! It ____ (rain).
- I promise I ____ (not tell) anyone your secret.
- When she ____ (come) back, I ____ (give) her the letter. (use two forms)
- Rewrite correctly: He will to start his new job on Monday.
Answer key: 1) will have — the decision is taken while speaking. 2) are going to move — the plan was made earlier and the flat is already found. 3) is going to rain — the clouds are visible evidence. 4) won't tell or will not tell — a promise takes will, and the negative contraction is won't. 5) comes... will give — the time clause takes the present form and the main clause takes will. 6) He will start his new job on Monday. or, if the decision was made earlier, He is going to start his new job on Monday.
