Tek katlı, genellikle bahçe yanında kurulan eve a bungalow, kırsal ya da küçük kasabalardaki sade eve a cottage, şehir dışında konforlu biçimde inşa edilen eve a villa, çok büyük ve pahalı eve a mansion denir. İki katlı eve a duplex adı verilir.

Ailece oturulan oda the living room, yemek pişirilen oda the kitchen, uyunan oda the bedroom, yıkanılan oda the bathroom, odaları birbirine bağlayan geçiş the hall olarak adlandırılır. Eve ait açık alan the garden (bahçe), araba için ayrılan bölüm the garage, pencerenin önündeki küçük çıkıntı ise the balcony'dir.

There is / There are ile Ev Anlatımı

Bir mekânda ne olduğunu söylemek için there is ve there are yapıları kullanılır. Tekil isimlerle there is, çoğul isimlerle there are gelir: There is a small balcony behind the living room. · There are three bedrooms upstairs. Olumlu cümlede some, olumsuz ve soru cümlesinde any kullanılır: There is some milk in the fridge. · There aren't any chairs in the hall. Sayılamayan isimlerde a, an kullanılmaz; çoğul biçim de getirilmez: There is some furniture in the lounge.

Yer İçin Edatlar

Bir eşyanın ya da odanın konumunu belirtmek için in, on, under, next to, between, opposite, behind, in front of gibi yer edatları kullanılır. in bir hacmin içinde, on bir yüzey üzerinde, under altında, behind arkasında, in front of önünde, next to yanında, opposite karşı tarafta, between iki nesnenin arasında kullanılır. Örnek: The garage is behind the house. · The balcony is on the front of the building. · The bathroom is between the kitchen and the bedroom. · The bank is opposite the school.

Sıfatlarda Sıralama

İngilizce'de isimden önce gelen birden fazla sıfatın sırası bellidir: görüş, büyüklük, yaş, şekil, renk, köken, malzeme, amaç ve en son isim. Bu sıraya uyularak a cosy little house, a beautiful small garden ya da an old wooden table gibi ifadeler kurulur. Yanlış sıralama yapılmamalıdır: a little cosy house yerine a cosy little house denir. Sıfatların sayısı ikiden fazla olduğunda sıralamayı bilmek özellikle önemlidir.

Sık Yapılan Hatalar

Ne Öğreneceğiz

In this lesson you will learn the words for houses and homes around the world: flat, apartment, bungalow, cottage, villa, mansion, duplex, detached house, semi-detached house, terraced house, studio flat, houseboat. You will learn what makes each one different: how many floors it has, whether it shares walls, and where it is usually built.

You will learn the rooms and parts of a home — living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, hall, garden, garage, balcony — and the structures that describe them: there is for one thing, there are for more than one, some in positive sentences and any in negatives and questions.

You will also learn the family types found in different societies (nuclear, extended, single-parent, blended, multi-generational), the prepositions of place, and the order of adjectives when you describe a house in more than three words.

Ön Bilgi

You need three things ready.

First, there is / there are with agreement. A singular or uncountable noun takes there is; a plural noun takes there are. In speech people often say there's before a plural, but in writing keep the agreement correct.

Second, some and any. Some belongs in positive sentences; any in negatives and questions. This pair appears in almost every description of a home.

Third, the prepositions of place — in, on, under, next to, between, opposite, behind, in front of — and the special pair on the ground floor, on the first floor, which English expresses with on, not in.

Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam

Read this description of a home.

We live in a small modern villa on a quiet street near the sea. There is a beautiful little garden behind the house, and there are two balconies in front of it. The house has two floors, so my grandmother lives on the ground floor and we live on the first floor. In my family we are an extended family: my grandparents live with us.

The description names the type of home, uses there is for one thing and there are for more than one, gives the position of two parts with prepositions, and finally names the family type.

Now write five sentences about your own home using the same four moves.

Adım Adım Çözülmüş Örnek

Follow these steps to describe a home and a family.

  1. Step 1 — Name the type of home and its position. We live in a terraced house on a busy street.
  2. Step 2 — Describe the outside with there is or there are. There is a small garden in front of it, and there are no balconies.
  3. Step 3 — Describe the inside room by room. There is a large kitchen and there are three bedrooms upstairs. Keep the agreement correct.
  4. Step 4 — Say where things are with prepositions. The garage is behind the house. · The bathroom is between the kitchen and the bedroom. · The balcony is on the front of the building.
  5. Step 5 — Name the family type. We are an extended family because my aunt lives with us.
  6. Step 6 — Check your adjectives. Opinion comes before size before age: a beautiful small garden, not a small beautiful garden.
