Temel rutin ifadeleri şunlardır: get up → uyanmak, have breakfast → kahvaltı yapmak, go to school → okula gitmek, do homework → ev ödevi yapmak, watch TV → televizyon izlemek, help with the house → ev işlerine yardım etmek, go to bed → yatağa gitmek. Zaman edatları cümlenin doğru anlaşılmasını sağlar: at saat bildiren ifadelerde, in günün bölümlerinde, on gün adlarında kullanılır. Sıklık kelimeleri olan always, usually, often, sometimes, never da geniş zamanla birlikte çalışır.
En çok unutulan nokta, özne he, she, it ya da bir aile üyesinin adı olduğunda fiilin -s ekini almasıdır. My father watches the news. · My uncle washes the dishes. · My grandmother takes a short walk after dinner. Özne I, you, we, they ise ek gelmez: We have dinner together. Olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde ise yardımcı fiil do / does çekimi üstlenir, bu yüzden asıl fiil yalın bırakılır: He doesn't watch TV on school nights.
Rutinleri Karşılaştırmak: Sıfatlar
Aile bireylerini karşılaştırırken sıfatların karşılaştırma (comparative) biçimi kurulur. Kısa sıfatlara -er eklenir: My sister is taller than my cousin. Uzun sıfatlarda more kullanılır: My mother is more careful than my aunt. My aunt is the most patient person in our family. Eşitlik kurarken as... as yapısı kullanılır: My brother is as tall as his father now. Karşılaştırma için mutlaka than ya da as... as gerekir; tall than gibi eksik yapı yanlıştır.
Geçmiş Rutinler: used to ve Past Simple
Geçmişte var olan ama artık devam etmeyen alışkanlıklar used to + yalın fiil yapısıyla anlatılır: My grandfather used to walk to school every morning. My grandmother made bread every Saturday. İki dönemi bir arada anlatmak için but, now ve today bağlaçları kullanılır: My uncle used to work in a factory, but now he runs his own workshop. Olumsuz biçimde didn't use to kullanılır: They didn't use to have a car in the village.
Rutin Karşılaştırma Tablosu
| Özne | Bugünkü rutin | Geçmiş alışkanlık |
|---|
| I / You / We / They | get up at six | used to get up at five |
| He / She / It | gets up at six | used to get up at five |
| My parents | have dinner at eight | used to have dinner at six |
| My aunt | helps with the house | used to work in another city |
İleri örnek — Örnek Çözüm
Soru: Ailenin iki farklı dönemdeki günlük rutinini karşılaştıran kısa bir metin yazınız.
Metin: My father gets up at half past six and has breakfast with us. My sister watches TV for twenty minutes before school. In the past, my grandfather used to get up at four to water the plants, and he used to walk to the village square. He is taller than my father, but he is more careful with money than my uncle.
Sonraki iki cümle artık sürmeyen alışkanlıkları anlattığı için used to + yalın fiil biçiminde kurulmuştur.
Karşılaştırmada kısa sıfatlara -er, uzun sıfatlara more, eşitlikte as... as yapısı kurulur. Artık sürmeyen geçmiş alışkanlıklar used to + yalın fiil ile, bitmiş geçmiş olaylar Past Simple ile verilir.
Sık Yapılan Hatalar
- Üçüncü tekil şahısta -s ekini atlamak: My mother make tea. yerine My mother makes tea. yazılmalıdır.
- Used to yapısını bozmak: used to going yerine used to go biçimi kullanılır.
- Karşılaştırmada than kelimesini atlamak: She is taller my sister. yanlıştır, karşılaştırılan kişi than ile bağlanır.
- Used to ile be used to karıştırmak: 'alışkın olmak' anlamında be used to + -ing, geçmiş alışkanlıkta ise used to + yalın fiil kullanılır.
- Zaman edatlarını karıştırmak: in seven o'clock yerine at seven o'clock, on the morning yerine in the morning denmelidir.
Ne Öğreneceğiz
In this lesson you will describe family members and compare their routines today with their routines in the past. You will study the family words in detail — son, daughter, cousin, nephew, niece, twins, sibling, brother-in-law, parents-in-law — and you will see which English words cover more than one Turkish word.
You will learn the routine verbs in their two forms: the present simple for what happens every day (My father gets up at six) and used to + base form for habits that stopped (My grandfather used to get up at four).
You will also learn to compare family members with comparatives and superlatives, and to use time prepositions correctly: at for the clock, in for parts of the day, on for days, and the frequency words always, usually, often, sometimes, never.
Ön Bilgi
You need three things ready.
First, the present simple and the -s rule. Third person singular subjects (he, she, it, my mother) take -s; I, you, we, they do not. Negatives and questions use do / does, and the main verb returns to its base form.
Second, used to + base form and its negative didn't use to. This is the structure that carries the whole comparison between the two periods.
Third, comparatives and superlatives, because comparing family members is a large part of the topic: taller than, more careful than, the most patient, as tall as.
Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam
Read this comparison of two generations.
My father gets up at half past six and has breakfast with us before he leaves for work. My sister watches a short programme before school. In the past, my grandfather used to get up at four to water the plants, and he used to walk to the village square to buy bread. My father is taller than my grandfather was, but he is busier than his own father used to be.
