Prior Knowledge
Bu konuyu anlamak için önce clothing according to seasons and weather conditions konusunu bilmen gerekir. We wear different clothes in different seasons.
- Name the clothes we wear in summer, autumn, winter and spring.
- Match weather words such as sunny, rainy, snowy and windy with the right clothes.
- Explain why we wear warm clothes in winter and light clothes in summer.
What Are Clothing Preferences?
Each of us has different clothes that we enjoy. Some children like a blue T-shirt, some children like a warm coat. We say our clothes that we like with the word like or with the word favourite. This topic helps us to talk about our choices.
A preference means the choice that we like best. If a child does not like a hat, we say I do not like a hat. If she likes it very much, we say I like my hat.
The Word Like and Its Forms
- I like a skirt. (I, you, we, they)
- He likes a skirt. (he, she, it)
- I do not like a hat. (the negative form)
- Does she like a hat? (the question for she)
- I like wearing a coat. (like plus verb-ing)
We must not forget the small letter s. It comes after he, she and it in the positive sentences.
Favourite Clothes
Favourite means the thing that we like most. It is very useful at school because we can talk about one or two things only.
| Question | Short answer |
|---|
| Do you like a red hat? | Yes, I do. / No, I do not. |
| Does he like boots? | Yes, he does. / No, he does not. |
| What do you like to wear? | I like to wear a blue shirt. |
| What are your favourite clothes? | My favourite clothes are a coat and a scarf. |
Short answers are easier and faster. At school we use them more than long answers.
Example
Ella has a blue skirt, a brown jacket and a pair of sandals. She must say what she likes at home.
- First we name the clothes that we like. Ella says: I like the blue skirt.
- Then we say the clothes that we do not like. She says: I do not like the sandals.
- After that we give the favourite ones. She says: My favourite clothes are a blue skirt and a brown jacket.
- Last we read the sentences again and check the verbs: like, do not like and are.
