Konu Anlatımı
Learning Activities in the Classroom — Sınıf İçi Etkinlikler
Sınıf içinde farklı öğrenme etkinlikleri kullanılır. Pair work, iki öğrencinin birlikte çalışmasıdır ve konuşma pratiği için idealdir. Group work grup projesi ve tartışmada, class discussion ise tüm sınıfın bir konuyu görüşmesinde kullanılır. Öğrenciler ayrıca presentations yapar, not alır (take notes), deney yapar ve proje hazırlar. We work in pairs to practise speaking. ve Our teacher divides us into groups for project work. gibi cümleler bu etkinlikleri anlatır. Etkinliğin türü, öğrenme hedefiyle birlikte seçilir: dil pratiğinde pair work, araştırma konularında ise group work tercih edilir.
Personal Learning Styles — Kişisel Öğrenme Stilleri
Her öğrencinin öğrenmeye yatkın olduğu yol farklıdır. Visual learners; grafik, şema, renkli notlar ve haritalarla öğrenir. Auditory learners; anlatımı, tartışmayı ve kaydı dinleyerek öğrenir. Kinesthetic learners; yaparak, deney yaparak ve hareket ederek öğrenir. Örneğin I am a visual learner, so I draw mind maps for every chapter. cümlesi görsel öğrenmeyi; I remember better when I listen to the recording cümlesi işitsel öğrenmeyi ifade eder.
Choosing the Right Strategy — Doğru Stratejiyi Seçme
Örneğin, dil pratiği için pair work etkinliği, araştırma konularında ise group work tercih edilir.
This lesson is about how learning happens in a classroom and how you can make your own study time more effective. You will learn the language of classroom interaction — pair work, group work, class discussion, give a presentation, take notes, do a project — and the instructions teachers use to organise these activities.
You will also study the three learning styles in the unit: visual (learns through pictures and diagrams), auditory (learns through listening and speaking) and kinesthetic (learns by doing and moving). Each style comes with its own typical sentences, such as I draw mind maps or I remember things when I say them aloud.
Finally you will learn verbs and nouns for study techniques: preview, review, summarise, revise, memorise, practise, make flashcards and set a goal. Using these verbs correctly is what separates a smooth study-plan paragraph from a list of isolated words.
Ön Bilgi
You need two grammar points before you start.
First, the gerund (-ing form) as a noun: Reading before class helps me. When you talk about study techniques you will use -ing forms as subjects and after prepositions: I am good at memorising lists.
Second, like / enjoy / prefer + -ing: I enjoy working in groups. / I prefer studying alone. This is the pattern you need to say which learning style suits you. Without it you would have to translate a Turkish sentence word by word and produce errors such as I enjoy to work.
You should also recognise the classroom verbs in the imperative, because that is how teachers give instructions: Work in pairs. / Compare your answers. / Take two minutes to read.
Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam
Read this diary entry written by a student after a normal school day.
Today we worked in pairs and practised asking questions in English. Then our teacher divided us into groups and we did a short project about recycling. Before the lesson she asked us to preview the text, and after the lesson I reviewed my notes. I am a visual learner, so I drew a mind map of the new words.
The entry is useful because every sentence contains one classroom action. Underline the verbs and notice that almost all of them describe what students do, not what the teacher does.
Now write four sentences about your own last lesson using these starters: We worked in... · Our teacher asked us to... · After the lesson I... · I am a... learner, so I...
İleri Örnek
The same experience can be presented for different purposes. Compare the two versions.
For a class survey: When I study English I prefer working alone, because I can read at my own speed. However, group work is better for speaking practice.
For a study-skills poster: Students learn in different ways. Visual learners benefit from diagrams and colour, whereas auditory learners remember spoken explanations more easily. The most effective study plan combines several techniques.
In the survey version, I is the subject and the tone is personal. In the poster version, the subject is a general group (students, visual learners) and the tone is factual. The exam often rewards the second register when the task begins Write an article for the school magazine.
Adım Adım Çözülmüş Örnek
Follow these steps to build a personal study plan in English.
- Step 1 — Identify your style. Complete the sentence: I learn best when I see it / hear it / do it. The verb form stays in the -ing form after when if there is no subject.
- Step 2 — Match a technique to the style. Visual: make a mind map. Auditory: record and listen again. Kinesthetic: walk while revising or use cards on the table.
- Step 3 — Add the timing words. A plan needs for plus a period or every plus a day: twenty minutes every evening, for half an hour on Sundays.
- Step 4 — Add one measure. Use a verb of checking: I test myself with flashcards. / I check my answers after each exercise.
- Step 5 — Order the steps. Use first, then, after that, finally so the reader can follow the routine.
Model plan: First, I preview the chapter for five minutes. Then I read it again and write a short summary. After that, I make ten flashcards and test myself the next morning.
Karşılaştırma Tablosu
Classroom activities and study techniques are easy to confuse. This table shows what each one is for and which preposition follows it.
| Word or phrase | Meaning in the classroom | Preposition / pattern | Example |
|---|
| pair work | two students work together | work in + activity | We work in pairs. |
| group work | three or more students work together | work in + groups | We work in groups of four. |
| take notes | write the main ideas during the lesson | take notes on + topic | I take notes on new words. |
| do a project | longer piece of work with a result | do a project on + topic | We are doing a project on water. |
| revise | study again before a test | revise for + test | I revise for exams. |
| memorise | learn by heart | memorise + list / words | I memorise twenty words a day. |
| practise | repeat an activity to improve | practise + -ing | I practise speaking every day. |
Careful: revise and practise are not the same. You revise information; you practise a skill.
Sık Yapılan Hatalar
Six mistakes appear again and again in this topic.
- Using a gerund after would like. I would like working in groups is wrong. Say I would like to work in groups or I like working in groups.
- Forgetting the preposition with activities. Not work pairs but work in pairs; not take part a discussion but take part in a discussion.
- Confusing notes and note. In the classroom you take notes (plural). A note is a short written message.
- Writing I am agree. Agree is a verb: I agree with you, not I am agree.
- Using study and learn as if they were identical. You study a subject and you learn information: I study English to learn new words.
- Choosing the wrong style noun. I am a visual is incomplete; the person is a visual learner.
Kendini Dene
Answer in full sentences, then compare with the key.
- Complete: I enjoy ____ (work) in groups because we can share ideas.
- Which technique do you use before a lesson? (revise / preview / memorise / summarise)
- Choose the correct preposition: Take part ____ the discussion. (in / on / at / for)
- Rewrite correctly: I would like working alone when I study grammar.
- Match the style with the sentence: (a) visual, (b) auditory, (c) kinesthetic — I remember a word when I write it many times.
- Write two sentences about your study routine. Use first, then and one -ing form.
Answer key: 1) working — after enjoy the verb takes the -ing form. 2) preview — you look at the material before the lesson. 3) in — the fixed phrase is take part in. 4) I would like to work alone when I study grammar. — would like takes the infinitive with to. 5) (c) kinesthetic — writing and moving are physical actions. 6) Any two correct sentences, e.g. First I read the new words aloud. Then I write them in a sentence and check the spelling.
