Konu Anlatımı
Tekil biçimleri a shoe, a boot, a pair of gloves gibi ifadelerle ya da a zamirleriyle verilir.
2. Giyinme Fiilleri ve Doğru Kullanım
İngilizcede giyinme eylemini anlatan birden fazla fiil vardır ve her birinin kullanımı farklıdır. Wear üzerinde bir şey bulunduğu anı ifade eder: She is wearing a red coat. Put on bir şeyi giyme işini anlatır: Put on your jacket; it is cold outside. Take off ise çıkarmaktır: Take off your shoes before you enter the room. Try on yalnızca denemek anlamına gelir: Can I try these boots on? Dress ve get dressed kendini giymeyi anlatır: He gets dressed at seven o’clock. · She dressed her little brother quickly.
- wear → üzerinde bulunmak, taşımak
- put on → giymek (eylemin başlangıcı)
- take off → çıkarmak
- try on → denemek, üstüne provası etmek
- dress / get dressed → kendini giymek
Put on ile try on fiilleri ayrılabilen fiillerdir; nesne fiilin arkasına ya da arasına girebilir: Put your gloves on. · Try on your gloves. Bu iki fiil, cümlede nesne + fiil biçiminde de kullanılır. Wear ise bu şekilde ayrılamaz: He wore his shoes. doğru, He wore his shoes on. ise yanlıştır.
3. Sıfatların Sıralanması ve Karşılaştırma
İngilizcede giyim eşyalarını niteleyen birden fazla sıfat kullanıldığında belirli bir sıra izlenir. En yaygın sıralama şudur: yorum (beautiful, nice) → yaş (old, new) → büyüklük (big, small) → renk (red, blue) → madde (woollen, cotton) → isim. Bu sıraya göre a beautiful long red dress doğru, a red beautiful long dress yanlıştır. Her zaman sıralama zorunlu değildir; bazen iki sıfatlı bir ifade de doğal kabul edilir.
Karşılaştırma için more / less... than yapısı kullanılır: Cotton shirts are more comfortable than thick jumpers. · Jeans are less formal than a suit. Eşitlik için as... as yapısı vardır: This coat is as warm as that one. Süperlative biçimde the kullanılır: It is the most comfortable shirt I own.
| Yapı | Örnek cümle | Anlam |
|---|
| put on | Put on your scarf → Atkını giy | Bir eşyayı üzerine almak |
| try on | Try on this jacket → Bu ceketi dene | Bedeni ya da görünümü görmek |
| take off | Take off your hat → Şapkanı çıkar | Üzerinden kaldırmak |
| prefer A to B | I prefer boots to trainers | B yerine A’yı seçmek |
| more... than | Jeans are more comfortable than trousers | Karşılaştırmak |
| as... as | A skirt is as warm as a coat | Eşit derecede olmak |
4. Tercihler ve Moda Eğilimleri
Kendi tarzınızı anlatırken like, love, hate, don’t mind fiilleri kullanılır. Love hoşgörü, like hafif bir ilgi, don’t mind ise kayıtsızlık bildirir: I love wearing jeans. · She likes this colour. · I don’t mind wearing a hat. Karşılaştırmalı tercihlerde prefer A to B ya da would rather A than B yapıları kullanılır: I prefer plain clothes to fashionable ones. · My brother would rather wear trainers than shoes.
Moda eğilimi ile kişisel zevk her zaman aynı şey değildir. Bir eğilim belli bir süre içinde birçok kişinin tercihi hâline gelen ortak tarzdır. Kişisel zevk ise kişinin kendi rahatını ve tarzını ifade eder. Wearing the same comfortable clothes at home bir eğilim değil, kişisel bir tercihtir. Alışveriş yaparken size, fit, a smaller size ve try a different colour gibi ifadeler duyulur.

Ne Öğreneceğiz
In this lesson you will learn the vocabulary of clothes and the verbs that go with them. You will study clothing nouns — shirt, T-shirt, blouse, sweater, jacket, coat, trousers, jeans, skirt, dress, shoes, trainers, boots, hat, scarf, gloves, belt — and you will notice that many of them are used only in the plural in English: trousers, jeans, gloves, shoes, socks, boots.
You will learn the difference between four verbs that Turkish translates with the same word: wear (state), put on (the action of dressing), take off (removing) and try on (testing in a shop). Two of them are separable.
You will also learn to describe clothes with more than one adjective, in the correct order, and to express preferences with like, love, don't mind, prefer A to B and would rather A than B, using comparatives, as... as and superlatives.
Ön Bilgi
You need three things ready.
First, plural-only nouns. Words such as trousers, jeans, glasses, gloves and shoes have no natural singular; when you count them you use a pair of: a pair of jeans, two pairs of shoes.
Second, the adjective order: opinion, age, size, colour, material, purpose, then the noun. English does not allow the Turkish order.
Third, comparative structures, because clothing comparisons are a large part of the topic: more comfortable than, less formal than, as warm as, the most comfortable.
Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam
Read this short description and notice the clothing vocabulary.
My favourite outfit is simple: a plain white T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans and my old leather jacket. In winter I wear a thick grey sweater and a long red scarf. My brother prefers trainers to shoes, and he would rather wear a hoodie than a shirt. I do not mind wearing a uniform, but I prefer comfortable clothes to fashionable ones.
The text names clothes with the correct singular and plural forms, uses a pair of for jeans, and expresses two preferences with two different patterns.
Now write five sentences about what you are wearing today and what you prefer.
İleri Örnek
Compare a factual description with an evaluative one.
Factual: She is wearing a black coat and black boots. The coat is long. The boots are leather.
Evaluative: She is wearing a long black woollen coat with heavy leather boots. The coat is warmer than my jacket, but it is less practical for cycling, and it is the most expensive item she owns.
The second version puts the adjectives in the right order, compares the coat with a jacket using than, and adds an evaluation. Exam tasks on fashion usually want both the description and a personal judgement.
Adım Adım Çözülmüş Örnek
Follow these steps to describe an outfit correctly.
- Step 1 — Say what the person is wearing with wear. She is wearing a red coat. The state verb takes the -ing form in the present continuous.
- Step 2 — Use put on only for the action. Put on your jacket; it is cold. In the negative: Don't put on those shoes.
- Step 3 — Use take off for removing. Take off your hat inside the classroom.
- Step 4 — Use try on for testing. Can I try this jacket on? Both orders are possible with a noun; with a pronoun only the middle position works.
- Step 5 — Add the adjectives in English order. a beautiful long red dress: opinion, size, colour.
- Step 6 — Express a preference. I prefer boots to trainers. Or I would rather wear boots than trainers.
Karşılaştırma Tablosu
The four dressing verbs are not interchangeable.
| Verb | Meaning | Example |
|---|
| wear | to have clothing on your body | She wears glasses. |
| put on | the action of dressing | Put on your coat. |
| take off | remove clothing | Take off your shoes. |
| try on | test clothing in a shop | Try on this shirt. |
| dress / get dressed | put clothes on yourself | He gets dressed at seven. |
Separable or not: put on, take off and try on are separable, so both put on your gloves and put your gloves on are correct. Wear is never separated: He wore his shoes, never He wore his shoes on.

Answer in full sentences and then check the key.
- Complete: She ____ (wear) a long red woollen coat today.
- Which sentence is correct? (a) He wore his shoes on. (b) He put on his shoes. (c) He put his shoes on wear.
- Rewrite correctly: She bought a red beautiful long dress.
- Fill in: Can I try ____ jacket on? (this / these / it on)
- Which verb means removing a piece of clothing?
- Write five sentences about your clothes and preferences. Use one plural-only noun with a pair of, one correct adjective order, one comparative and one preference pattern.
Answer key: 1) is wearing — the present continuous of wear describes what someone has on now. 2) (b) — put on is separable, so put his shoes on would also be correct; the given wrong options break the rule for wear and add a second verb. 3) She bought a beautiful long red dress. 4) this — try this jacket on. 5) take off. 6) Any five correct sentences, e.g. I am wearing a plain black T-shirt and a pair of old jeans. I bought a comfortable thick grey sweater last winter. Cotton T-shirts are cheaper than woollen sweaters. I prefer trainers to leather shoes. I would rather wear a hoodie than a jacket at weekends.
