Konu Anlatımı
1. Uzay Araştırmalarının Amacı
Uzay araştırmalarının başlıca amacı, Dünya dışını gözlemlemek ve evreni anlamaktır. Bilim insanları to observe, to collect data, to study gibi amaç fiilleriyle bu etkinliği anlatır.
2. Yapay Uydular
An artificial satellite (yapay uydu), roketle yörüngeye gönderilen ve Dünya'nın çevresinde dönen insan yapımı cihazdır. Her uydu tek bir görev için tasarlanır. Aşağıdaki tablo, göreve göre ayrımı göstermektedir.
| Uydu türü | Görevi | Günlük hayattaki karşılığı |
|---|
| Meteorolojik uydu | Bulut, yağış ve fırtına izlemek | Hava durumu uyarıları |
| Uydu navigasyon sistemi | Alıcının konumunu hesaplamak | GPS ile yol tarifi |
| Haberleşme uydusu | Sinyal iletmek | Telefon ve internet bağlantısı |
| Bilimsel uydu | Uzayı ölçmek ve kayıt almak | Bilimsel veri ve keşifler |
A probe (sonda) insan taşımaz; uzaktan veri toplar. A telescope (teleskop) gözlem aracıdır. Örneğin the Hubble Space Telescope 1990 yılında fırlatıldı ve Dünya atmosferinin üzerine yerleştirildiği için görüntüsü bozulmadan çalışır. Uzay tarihinin bilinen bir olayı da, Neil Armstrong'un 1969 yılında Apollo 11 göreviyle Ay'a çıkıp yürüyen ilk insan olmasıdır.
Astronotlar günlük işlerini to work, to sleep, to exercise fiilleriyle anlatır.
7. Gerçekleşmemiş Durumları Anlatmak
Uzay araştırmalarıyla ilgili konuşmalarda hem gelecek hem de gerçekleşmemiş geçmiş anlatılır. will not + V1 (kısaca won't) gelecekte olmayacak bir eylemi bildirir: Robots will not land on Mars next year. İkinci koşul cümlesinde would kullanılır: If there were more funding, robots would travel further. Üçüncü koşulda ise had + past participle ve would have + V1 birlikte görülür: If astronauts had not trained harder, they would not have reached the Moon. Would aynı zamından aktarılan konuşmada da korunur: He said that he would work on the space station.
İleri örnek — 8. Örnek Çözüm
Soru: Aşağıdaki cümleyi gerçekleşmemiş bir geçmiş durum olarak yeniden yazınız: 'Astronauts didn't have navigation satellites, so they couldn't find their position at sea.'
- Olay gerçekleşmemiştir, bu yüzden past simple yerine had + past participle kullanılır.
- Sonuçta could not yerine would not have + V3 gelir.
- so bağlacı korunabilir ya da cümle ikiye ayrılabilir.
- Yazım ve zaman uyumu kontrol edilir.
Örnek cümle: If astronauts had not had navigation satellites, they would not have been able to find their position at sea.
Gerçekleşmemiş durumlar would ve had yapılarıyla anlatılır.
Sık Yapılan Hatalar
- would ile if karıştırmak: would if cümlesinin içine konmaz; koşulda past simple ya da had + past participle kullanılır.
- will not + V-ing yazmak: gelecekte olmayacak eylemde will not yalın fiille kullanılır.
- Ağırlıksızlığı tamamen yokluk sanmak: yörüngede yer çekimi vardır; ağırlıksızlık hissi, istasyonun ve içindekilerin birlikte düşmesinden kaynaklanır.
- Uydunun görevini karıştırmak: hava durumu uydusu, konum belirleyen navigasyon uydusu ve haberleşme uydusu birbirinden ayrılmalıdır.
- Uydurma görev adı yazmak: uzay tarihine ait olmayan görev ve araç adları kullanılmamalı, doğrulanabilir gerçeklerle çalışılmalıdır.
Ne Öğreneceğiz
In this lesson you will learn how space exploration works and what it has given us. You will study the vocabulary of missions — artificial satellite, space station, spacecraft, probe, telescope, rocket, launch, orbit, microgravity, weightlessness — and you will learn to tell the difference between them, because exam tasks often pair a satellite type with its job.
You will study the four satellite types and their uses: weather satellites, navigation satellites, communication satellites and scientific satellites, and you will connect them to everyday technology such as forecasts, GPS and internet calls.
You will also learn the language of unreal situations, because space history is full of what did not happen: If astronauts had not trained harder, they would not have reached the Moon. You will study the third conditional and reported speech with would.
Ön Bilgi
You need three things ready.
First, the present passive and the past passive, because almost every space sentence is impersonal: The telescope was launched in 1990, Data are collected by probes.
Second, the infinitive of purpose: to observe, to collect data, to study. When you explain why a mission happens, this is the structure to use.
Third, the third conditional. This topic asks you to imagine alternative history, and that needs If + had + past participle, would have + past participle. Without it you cannot talk about what did not happen.
Basit Örnek ve Günlük Yaşam
Read this short text and notice the mixture of tenses.
The International Space Station has been occupied continuously since the year 2000. Astronauts work, sleep and exercise there, and they float because the station and everything inside it are falling towards the Earth together. Satellites are used for weather forecasts, for navigation and for communication. If the first satellites had not been launched, GPS would not exist today.
The text moves from a present perfect for a continuing situation, to a present simple for routine, to a passive for general facts, and finally to a third conditional for an imagined alternative.
Now write three sentences about space technology using one passive and one if sentence about the past.
Adım Adım Çözülmüş Örnek
Follow these steps to write about a space mission.
- Step 1 — Name the vehicle or station. A probe is an unmanned spacecraft. Use the passive for definitions: Probes are used to collect data.
- Step 2 — Say when it was launched. It was launched in 2018. Past passive, with in for the year.
- Step 3 — Say what it does with the infinitive of purpose. It was sent to study the surface of the planet.
- Step 4 — Say why it matters. It was designed to measure the temperature, because scientists need accurate data.
- Step 5 — Add one imagined alternative. If the mission had failed, the next launch would have been delayed for years.
Karşılaştırma Tablosu
Space vehicles and instruments are easy to confuse.
| Word | Definition | Crew? |
|---|
| rocket | vehicle that launches something into space | no, it is the carrier |
| spacecraft | vehicle that travels in space | sometimes |
| probe | unmanned craft that collects data | no |
| artificial satellite | machine placed in orbit | no |
| space station | place where people live and work in orbit | yes |
| telescope | instrument for observing distant objects | no |
| rover | vehicle that moves on a planet's surface | no |
Satellites by job: weather (clouds and storms), navigation (position), communication (signals), scientific (measurements).
Kendini Dene
Answer in full sentences and then check the key.
- Complete: The telescope ____ (launch) in 1990.
- Which sentence is correct? (a) If they had trained more, they would have succeeded. (b) If they would train more, they would have succeeded. (c) If they trained more, they would have succeeded.
- Rewrite correctly: Robots will not landing on Mars next year.
- Fill in: The probe was sent ____ (study) the surface of the planet.
- Which satellite type tells you the position of your phone?
- Write five sentences about a space mission you know. Use one past passive, one infinitive of purpose and one third conditional.
Answer key: 1) was launched — a past passive needs was / were plus the past participle. 2) (a) — the if clause of a third conditional takes had + past participle. 3) Robots will not land on Mars next year. — after will not the verb takes the base form. 4) to study — the infinitive of purpose follows was sent. 5) a navigation satellite. 6) Any correct text, e.g. A rover was sent to Mars to collect rock samples. It was designed to work for three months, but it continued for years. The data were sent back to the Earth by radio. If the rover had not landed safely, the mission would have been a complete failure. Today scientists still study the photographs it took.
