• Aktarımda konuşan kişi dinleyen kişiye dönüşür: I he veya she, we they, my his veya her, our their, mine his veya hers olur.
• Zaman kaymasında asıl fiil yalın ya da -ing biçimini korur; değişen şey yardımcı fiildir.
• Gelecek ve modal biçimler kayar: will became would, can became could, may became might, shall became should, must ve have to became had to.
• Evet-hayır sorusunun dolaylı biçiminde if veya whether kullanılır; yardımcı fiil düşer ve cümle nokta ile biter.
• Soru sözcüğü içeren dolaylı soruda sözcük korunur, yardımcı fiil düşer ve sıra özne + fiil olur.
• Emir cümleleri told veya ordered + nesne + to yalın fiil kalıbına girer; olumsuzlukta not to biçimi kullanılır.
• Suggest fiilinden sonra -ing ya da should + yalın fiil gelir; Türkçe etkisinden to biçimi kullanılmaz.

• Temel bildirme: S + say/tell + that + S + V → She said that she was tired.
• Say ve tell farkı: say + bilgi · tell + kişi → He said the road was closed. / He told me the road was closed.
• Zamir kayması: I → he/she · we → they · my → his/her · our → their · mine → his/hers · here → there
• Şimdiki zaman kayması: am/is/are → was/were · am/is/are + V-ing → was/were + V-ing
• Geçmiş kayması: Past Simple → had + V3 · Past Continuous → was/were + V-ing · have/has + V3 → had + V3
• Gelecek kayması: will → would · am/is/are going to → was/were going to · tomorrow → the next day
• Modal kayması: can → could · may → might · shall → should · must/have to → had to
• Yer ve zaman gösterge kayması: here → there · today → that day · yesterday → the day before · ago → before
• Dolaylı evet-hayır sorusu: S + asked + if/whether + S + fiil (yardımcı fiil düşer, sıra düzelir)
• Dolaylı soru sorusu: S + asked + soru sözcüğü + S + fiil → She asked where I lived.
• Dolaylı emir: S + told/ordered + nesne + (not) + to + V1 → He told me not to be late.
• Öneri ve teklif: S + suggested + V-ing / suggested that + S + should + V1 · S + offered + to + V1
• Noktalama: dolaylı cümle nokta ile biter, soru işareti ve tırnak kullanılmaz.

Sık yapılan hatalar

• Say yerine tell ya da tell yerine say kullanmak: "She said me that she was tired." yerine "She told me that she was tired." denir. Say bilgi nesnesi alır, tell kişi nesnesi alır. "He told me about the delay." cümlesinde de aynı kural geçerlidir.
• Dolaylı soruda soru sırasını korumak: "He asked where did I live?" cümlesinde did ve soru sırası kalıcı biçimde yer almış olur. Doğru kurulum "He asked where I lived." biçimindedir; cümle nokta ile biter.
• Told ve to arasına not koymamak: "She told me to not be late." yerine "She told me not to be late." denir. Olumsuzluk ifadesi to fiilinden önce gelir ve "not to" biçiminde tek bir yapı oluşur.
• Zaman kaymasını atlamak: "He said that he will come." cümlesinde will yerinde kalmıştır. Bildirme fiili geçmişte olduğu için "He said that he would come." biçimi gerekir.
• Suggest fiiline to eklemek: "She suggested me to wait outside." cümlesinde Türkçe alışkanlığıyla to biçimi kullanılmıştır. Doğru kurulum "She suggested waiting outside." ya da "She suggested that we should wait outside." biçimlerinden biridir.

Hızlı tekrar ipuçları

• Şıkta "that" varsa ikinci cümlenin zamanını hemen kontrol et: bildirme fiili geçmişteyse fiil de geçmişte olmalıdır.
• Soruda "asked" görüyorsan cümlenin bir soru olduğunu varsay; bu durumda şıklarda did ya da ters çeviri bulunması hemen şüphelidir.
• Zamir seçeneklerinde he, she, they, his, her, their sıralamasına dikkat et; doğru seçenek konuşanın değil dinleyenin bakış açısını yansıtır.
• "told" ya da "ordered" görüyorsan iki nesne arasında "to" arıyorsan bir yapı hatası vardır; doğru kalıp nesne + to + yalın fiildir.
• "suggest" görüyorsan -ing ya da should + yalın fiil beklenir; "to" biçimi o seçeneği eler.
• Dolaylı soru şıklarında soru işareti arıyorsan o şık elenebilir; aktarılmış bir cümle soru değildir.
