Konu Anlatımı

Human Rights Vocabulary

equality, freedom, justice, dignity, discrimination, right to education, freedom of speech, human rights, violation, protection.

Passive Voice

We use the passive when the action is more important than the doer. Form: be + past participle.

The doer is added with by: The speech was given by the leader.

Passive Voice: Tense-by-Tense Structures

ZamanYapıÖrnek (Türkçe karşılığı)
Present Simpleis/are + V3Rights are protected by law. (Haklar kanunla korunur.)
Past Simplewas/were + V3The declaration was signed in 1948. (Bildirge 1948'de imzalandı.)
Present Perfecthave/has been + V3New measures have been taken. (Yeni önlemler alınmıştır.)
Futurewill be + V3The report will be published tomorrow. (Rapor yarın yayımlanacak.)
Modalcan/must/should be + V3Everyone must be treated equally. (Herkes eşit muamele görmelidir.)

Agent and By-Phrases

Pasif yapı, eylemi yapan kişi bilinmediğinde, açık olduğunda ya da önemli olmadığında kullanılır: The letter was written in a hurry. (Mektup aceleyle yazılmış.) Eylemi yapan kişi önemliyse bir by-phrase eklenir: The letter was written by my sister. (Mektup kız kardeşim tarafından yazılmış.) Türkçede bu ilişki tarafından eki, -arak/-erek sıfat-fiilleri ya da dolaylı tümleç yapısıyla karşılanır; bu yüzden çevirilerde by'ı her zaman için diye çevirmek yanlış olur. Aktör önemsizken cümleyi uzatmamak, hem doğal dil hem de sınav açısından avantajdır.

Questions and Negatives in Passive

Pasif cümleyi soruya çevirmek için ilk yardımcı fiil öznenin önüne gelir: Is the bridge repaired every year? (Köprü her yıl onarılıyor mu?) Olumsuz yapıda ise ilk yardımcı fiile not eklenir: The bridge is not repaired in winter. (Köprü kışın onarılmaz.) Dikkat edilmesi gereken nokta, fiilin üçüncü hâlinin (V3) hiçbir koşulda yalnız kalmamasıdır: was signed, is being built ve will have been finished gibi yapılarda be fiili ve V3 birlikte bulunur. Günlük dilde get ile kurulan pasifler de duyulur: He got fired. (İşinden kovuldu.)

Human Rights Vocabulary in Use

Konuyla ilgili sözcük grubu hem okuma parçalarında hem kompozisyon bölümünde kullanılır: freedom (özgürlük), equality (eşitlik), discrimination (ayrımcılık), refugee (mülteci), to protect (korumak), to violate a right (hakkı ihlal etmek), constitution (anayasa) ve peace (barış). Telaffuzda vurgu yerleşimi dinleme bölümünde belirleyicidir: REfugee ilk hecede, discriMI nation ise dördüncü hecede vurgulanır. Doğru örnek cümleler şunlardır: Everyone has the right to freedom of speech. (Herkes ifade özgürlüğü hakkına sahiptir.) ve No one should be discriminated against because of their colour. (Hiç kimse rengi nedeniyle ayrımcılığa tabi tutulmamalıdır.)

Exam Focus: Doğru Pasifi Kurma

Sınavda pasif kurma soruları üç adımda çözülür: fiili bul, eylemi yapanı sor (yapan yoksa ya da önemsizse pasif), zamanı belirle, ardından be + V3 kalıbını kur. İlk yardımcı fiil soruda da olumsuzlukta da yer değiştirir: Was the document signed? ve The document was not signed. Sıklıkla yapılan hata, must ve should gibi yardımcı fiillerin ardından V3 yerine yalın fiil koymaktır; doğrusu must be solved şeklindedir. Son kontrol olarak cümleyi Türkçe çevirip eylemi yapanın kim olduğunu sormalısın: karşılık yoksa pasif doğru kurulmuştur.
