Önemli noktalar
- Mustn't means prohibition; don't have to means no obligation.
- Must is often personal; have to is often a rule.
- Modals are followed by the base verb.
- Mustn't ile don't have to anlamları birbirinin zıddıdır ve en sık sınanan ayrımı oluşturur.
- Must'un geçmiş biçimi yoktur; had to kullanılır.
- Be supposed to, beklenen ya da kural olan davranışı anlatır ve hoşnutsuzluk taşıyabilir.
Formüller ve kurallar
- must / mustn't (strong obligation/prohibition)
- have to / don't have to (external obligation/absence)
- should / ought to (advice)
- Modal + base verb
- must = kişisel zorunlulük; have to = dış kural; should = tavsiye.
- mustn't = yasak; don't have to / needn't = zorunluluk yok.
- had better + V1; be supposed to + V1; must'un geçmişi had to'dur.
Sık yapılan hatalar
- Confusing mustn't and don't have to: One forbids, the other means not necessary.
- Adding 'to' after must: Say 'must go' not 'must to go'.
- Using 'should' for rules: Rules usually use have to.
- Mustn't ile don't have to'yu eşitlemek: Mustn't yasak, don't have to ise zorunluluk yokluğu demektir; ikisinin yeri değiştirildiğinde anlam tamamen tersine döner.
- Must'un geçmişini kurmak: He musted biçiminde bir yapı yoktur; zorunluluk geçmişte had to ile anlatılır.

- Ask: is it forbidden, necessary or just advisable?
- Use modal + base verb.
- Compare manners across cultures respectfully.
- Önce cümlenin anlamını Türkçe yaz, sonra modalı seç; şıktan başlamak yanıltır.
- Şıklarda had better gördüysen ardından yalın fiil, be supposed to gördüysen to + V1 ara.
- Geçmiş zaman sorularında must yerine had to araması, çoğu soruyu tek adımda çözer.
